Beautifully soft but not without issue

I love working with this naturally worsted pure wool and malabrigo is just fabulous. It gives a super soft result that is floppy and cosy, not what you want if you are looking for a uniform crisp finish. I can’t give it 5 stars because hand worsted nature means that the ply is inform thickness and at times gets too fine to work with. Sometimes I even cut the yarn, double it over and use two strands to get my wool weight back which can cause waste, but I still use it. The natural is my least favourite shade but a decent substitute for white in a pattern though it’s actually a definite cool cream colour and there is no ‘bleached’ white option. The yarn isn’t twisted so you do get a lot of frogging even just unwinding the ball creates frogging so again, if you want that crisp defined stitch you don’t want to use this, but if you like a really variegated organic look with a hand crafted feel this is perfect

The softest purest wool I've ever worked with!

This really is a super, super soft wool. It is lofty as well, although really knits as aran weight and 4.5mm needles work best 9 or a 6mm crochet hook). I have bought perhaps 15 skeins of Malabrigo Worsted so far and have had a bit of a problem with one, which was badly wound, had a dirty stretch, a felted stretch and a knot. Lisa of Wool Stack immediately replaced it for me immediately and, really, I haven't had another problem with any other skein. The colours of this yarn are just lovely, but watch out with the Natural which, just like the other colourways, can differ in shade from one batch to another. Just make sure you order enough to complete your project at the same time so you get them from the same batch. Will knit and crochet with this wool again and again :o)

Description

This is it, the original Worsted that made Malabrigo an international favourite! A buttery-soft single ply of fine Uruguayan Merino wool, this yarn has excellent stitch definition, comes in an enormous rainbow of colours (solids, semisolids, and variegateds) and is deliciously squishy and cozy. It’s also fantastic for felting projects! Like all Malabrigo yarns, it is kettle-dyed in small batches by artisan dyers and is full of subtle variation and beauty.

Great for: Accessories and hand-wash-friendly garments, next-to-skin wear, cables, textured stitches, colourwork, felting, anything where warmth and comfort are a factor!

Yarn Weight:  Aran / Worsted
Blend:  100% Merino Wool
Ball Weight:  100g
Length:  192m (210 yards)
Needle Size:  5.5mm (US 9, UK 5) - 6.5mm (US 10.5, UK 3)
Tension:  18 stitches to 10cm/4"
Care Instructions:  Hand wash in cold water - dry flat

Note: Malabrigo comes in small dye lots so please be sure to buy enough yarn for your project. As with any hand dyed yarn, there can be significant shade differences between skeins, even within a dye lot, so we recommend that you alternate skeins every few rows to prevent striping.
